Telecom has been reticent to embrace BI but, rapid market changes during the past decade, have radically changed attitudes. A greater shift in focus toward the customer makes BI a prerequisite for all telcos facing competition. So now there is a real push for the technology as operators embrace it as a strategic tool to help them remain competitive as they differentiate themselves through customer service. There is now much more urgency to extract more intelligence out of routine business information.


Whatever the political or business reasons, the fates have not been kind to telecom over the past several years. In order to turn their fortunes, many telecom companies are investing heavily in new technologies that will enable them to collect and make sense of the overabundance of data that resides in their organizations, thus turning that data into usable information.

Vodafone UK needed to reduce the time frame from the time they collect information to the time the act on it.

As we move more and more toward a real-time environment, from a financial perspective, Sarbanes-Oxley contains requirements for real-time information. And, if you're looking at marketing, the trend now is toward one-to-one marketing and being able to reach each customer, creating a micro-market, which is again a real-time issue.

 

Vodafone UK provides a wide range of services including voice and data communications.

Client's Objectives were:

  • Making data available, accessible and timeline

  • Improve visibility of Price Plan usage down to subscriber activity

  • Support of improved decision-making across the organisation.

Due to large volumes of data, the data files from source systems were processed and summarised through our ETL processes without storing the raw data. This reduced processing time and storage costs.

The reports were delivered using our Web Portal services for mass publications.

We introduced the concept of "data hierarchy" where Voice, Messaging and soon at the top and the subscriber activity with associated wholesale values at the bottom of the hierarchy.
